Dosage information
8 TO 18 YEARS OLD
– Induction of general anesthesia:
the usual dosage is 2.5 mg/kg as a slow intravenous injection until emergence of clinical signs of anesthesia. The dosage should always be adjusted to the patient's weight and age. If the child has an ASA rating of 3 to 4, the dosage should be lowered.
– Maintenance:
Dosage should be individualized, but infusion of 9-15 mg/kg/hour usually induce a satisfactory level of anesthesia.
18 TO 55 YEARS OLD
– Induction of general anesthesia:
Dosage should be individualized according to treatment response. The initial dose in patients aged under 55 years is 4 ml (40 mg) as an intravenous bolus at 10 seconds intervals until the emergence of the clinical signs of anesthesia. If the patient has an ASA rating of 3 to 4, the dosage should be 2 ml (20 mg) at 10 seconds intervals.
– Maintenance:
Continuous infusion of 4-12 mg/kg/hour or repeated bolus injections of 25 mg (2.5 ml) – 50 mg (5.0 ml) according to the patient's response. At the onset of anesthesia some patients may require a slightly higher administration rate for 10-20 minutes.
55 TO 65 YEARS OLD
– Induction of general anesthesia:
Dosage should be individualized according to treatment response. The usual dosage requirement is 2.0-2.5 mg/kg.
65 YEARS OLD AND ABOVE
– Induction of general anesthesia:
Dosage should be individualized according to treatment response. In the elderly, a dose of 1.0-1.5 mg/kg is usually sufficient.
